Since 1985 Maria Berkhout has been creating sculptures and drawings that have invariably reflected her fascination with nature. Earlier in her career the forms were intrinsically more mathematical and geometric. In more recent years, however, amorphous, linear forms have increasingly become the dominant expression throughout her work.
This solo exhibition presented works exclusively from this latter period. Plaster casts, wooden sculptures and drawings from bister are incorporated to express the mysterious and intriguing phases of dead and dying flowers, leaves, branches and stems.
